• THE FUTURE TENSE WITH “BE GOING TO” (PAGE 21): Be going to + verb expresses specific future plans or intentions.

(+) Subject + am, is, Are + going to + verb infinitive + complement

(-) Subject + am, is, Are + not + going to + verb infinitive + complement

(?) Am, is, are + subject + going to + verb infinitive + complement +?

EXAMPLES:

Bill is going to take a vacation in august.

My parents are going to leave tomorrow.

Is Jorge going to go to school? (Possible answer) “Yes, he is” or “no, he isn´t”

• THE FUTURE TENSE WITH WILL (PAGE 22): The future tense witch will expresses future intentions. Will is normally used to express offers, predictions, promises and request.

(+) Subject + auxiliary (will) + verb infinitive + complement

(-) Subject + will not (won´t) + verb infinitive + complement

(?) Auxiliary (will) + subject + verb infinitive + complement +?

Examples:

I´ll eat Chinese food

She will not (won´t) eat Italian food.

Will he play soccer? (Possible answer) “Yes, he will” or “no, he won´t”

Intentions: I will visit my brother next week.

Offers: I go to the room, I will turn off the T.V.

Predictions: he will fail his test.

Promises: I will go witch you tomorrow to the park.

Request: will you buy something at the store?

Identify what is the use for future will in each sentence.

a) He will fall down if he keeps jumping so high. PREDICTION

b) I will bring you the DVD tomorrow. PROMISE

c) Monica will buy a new car next year; I hope I will save enough money. INTENTION

d) Will you bring my DVD back, please? I really need it. REQUEST

e) Don´t get up, I will answer the phone. OFFER

• THE FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE (PAGE 23-24): the future continuous tense normally describes actions that will be in progress in the future.

(+) Subject + auxiliary (will) + be + verb ing
