Guadalupe Victoria

Military and Mexican independence (Tamazula, Nueva Vizcaya, 1786 - San Carlos de Perote, 1846). His real name was José Miguel Ramón Fernández Félix Adaucto and grew up with his uncle the priest of Tamazula, Agustín Fernández. He studied at the Seminary of Durango and the College of San Ildefonso in Mexico.

In 1812 he joined the insurgent forces of Hermenegildo Galeana and changed his name to Guadalupe Victoria, it was entrusted to the Virgin brunette and fought for the victory of the insurgent cause. Highlighted during the making of Oaxaca and joined the troops of Nicholas Bravo in Veracruz. He devoted himself to control the passage of the bridge of the King, which became famous because of their successful assaults on military convoys.

For this he was promoted to colonel and was responsible for the campaign of Veracruz. Nautla defended ports and nozzles Stones, although the Royalists managed to recover later. Victoria started a guerrilla war strategy with short but withering attacks. It also organized a government in the territory that dominated, set taxes for the support of the war, appointed judges and the conditions for the creation of a maritime force. He managed to besiege and isolate the cities of Córdoba, Orizaba and Jalapa.

When the insurgent movement declined with the death of Morelos, Victoria continued to keep alive the cause. In early 1819 it went down, and reappeared in 1821 to support the Plan of Iguala, signed by Agustín de Iturbide and Vicente Guerrero. He met Iturbide, with whom he had differences because he did not agree on establishing an empire but of a republic.

When in 1823 Iturbide abdicated and went into exile, Victoria was part of the Supreme Executive. A year later he passed the Constitutive Act of the Federation (1824 Constitution) and Victoria was chosen as president.

Its management was aimed at obtaining recognition of Mexican independence from other nations. Borrowed from England and expelled all Spanish. At the conclusion of his government in 1829 retired to live at his ranch in Veracruz Jobo. He served as senator from Durango and Veracruz from 1832-1834, and simultaneously fought rebellions in Veracruz and Oaxaca, and later became governor of Puebla invested. In 1838 he assumed the general command of Veracruz to the threat of war with France. In 1841 he married Maria Antonia Breton and Velázquez, but his health was broken by an old epileptic condition.
