The Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous monument of New York, the United States and around the world, is located on Liberty Island to the south of the island of Manhattan, the Statue was a gift from the French Americans in the year 1886 to commemorate the centennial of the Declaration of Independence of the United States and as a sign of friendship between the two nations. The statue is the work of French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and the internal structure was designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel. The statue represents a woman upright, dressed in a kind of stole wide and its head is a crown with seven spikes, symbolizing the seven continents and the seven seas, has 25 windows in the crown which represent gems found on the earth and sky rays shining over the world. The statue is in her right hand a torch, held high. The torch brings us to the Age of Enlightenment. The height of the Statue of Liberty is 46 meters and reaches 93 meters from the ground to the torch, It weighs about 225 tons and its staircase is made up of 354 steps, at the bottom of the structure are broken chains, symbolizing freedom, the statue faces the East, to Europe, to which the United States share past and values.
