El futuro en inglés

Como tal, no existe un tiempo específico de futuro en inglés, pero existen distintos verbos y expresiones para referirnos a él. El futuro simple (simple future) se construye con los auxiliares shall y will. Shall se usa sólo para la primera persona singular y plural, will para todas las demás; sin embargo actualmente prevalece el uso de will para todas las personas.

Una forma habitual de futuro en inglés tiene la siguiente estructura:

Sujeto + will + verbo

I will play / Yo jugaré

La forma negativa:

Empleamos la combinación de palabras de "will + not" o "shall + not".

La forma negativa se suele contraer a "won't" en el inglés escrito informal y hablado:

Ejemplos: I won't say this again!

¡No volveré a decir esto!

John won't go to work tomorrow.

John no irá a trabajar mañana.

Shall es un modal verb, esto quiere decir que necesita de otro verbo para tener sentido. Su uso no es muy común, limitándose a algunas zonas de Inglaterra; en los Estados Unidos su uso es muy poco frecuente.

"Shall" (como verbo auxiliar para hacer el futuro) ha ido cayendo en desuso en general, sobre todo en el inglés americano. En inglés británico (insisto como futuro) se escucha más e incluso en una forma negativa que es "shan't" que equivale a "won't" (will not).

Ejemplo: "I shan't say this again!"

“No voy a decir esto denuevo”

La estructura para las oraciones sería:

- Afirmativa: Sujeto + shall + verbo en infinitvo sin "to" + complemento.

- Negativa: Sujeto + shall not (shan't) + verbo en infinitvo sin "to" + complemento.

- Interrogativa: Shall + sujeto + complemento + ?
