Dear editor,

I wish to provide some opinions about the article entitled “Children: educating for responsible freedom”. I feel a deep admiration for what the author Ms. Ruiz has written on it.

As stated the Article, I strongly believe that the best option is educating for responsible freedom. So, a clear teaching of values and principles is key for boys to have a benchmark to analyze and choose. A practical example is that if from early childhood they are clear about what is bad, good, fair and unfair they will grow with sufficient criteria to develop an autonomous morality and to choice about different temptations.

But I have some reservations with other point. While the article states that children do not need explanations, everything I have seen as mother is evidence to the contrary. In my opinion to avoid a communication from the "imposition", "because I said so" is essential. Contrary to what Ms. Ruiz think I think that boys need reasons to achieve criteria for assessing the consequences of any act.

Finally I would like to stress that childhood is a stage to create processes, a step to consolidate, so you must talking and guidance, speaking and listening, as friends and authority.
