ARTICLE #1: CLIMATE CHANGE: GLOBAL TEMPERATURE

  1. What is climate change?

According to the United Nations, climate change is the alteration of temperature and other natural patterns in the world, for example: volcano eruptions, high temperatures or extremely low temperatures, among others. And we wonder who produces this? Well, we humans are, by cutting down trees, burning fuels, excessive use of polluting means of transport, etc.

  1. Global temperature

Thanks to temperature measurements taken in places around the world, scientists can track changes and temperature anomalies in all regions. What is very worrying is that thanks to these measurements, it has been possible to record that the global average temperature increases significantly. Since 1880 there have been notable changes in the temperature of planet Earth due to the increase in the rate of warming. As surface temperatures have warmed over the years, the global oceans have been affected for the same reason: heat capacity causes high temperatures in different weather seasons and therefore the return of the thinner snow cover and sea ice melts, creating that mirror effect in excessive rainfall. Something very important is that by altering all this, the habitat of many animals and plants is also modified and their lives will be put at risk or at the same time they will become extinct.

According to the "2022 Global Climate Report from the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information," the year 2022 was the sixth warmest year since global temperature records were taken in 1880, indicating that more areas are warming. that cooling due to harmful human activities (burning of fossil fuels and clearing forests) that cause millions of metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is too much for natural processes to remove normally, means that Atmospheric carbon dioxide increases each year depending on how much carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases we will emit in the coming decades.

  1. Analysis

In the graph we can see the increase in temperature in relation to the years between 1880 and 202. The blue bars are the years that have reached too low temperatures and the red ones are the years with higher temperatures.

  1. Conclusions

In conclusion if annual emissions continue to rise rapidly, models project that by the end of this century, global temperatures will be at least 5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than average.
