Alice in Numberland

In the book of Alice in Numberland the story starts with a girl named Alice complaining about mathematic problems in the back yard of his home, because she said she hates them and that math doesn’t work for anything, when she is in her complains a weird skinny man comes out of the bushes, they began talking and he tries to convince her why math is important in life like what would happen if math didn’t exist in the world, what would happen with counting, years, etc. Also in some way the mathematician that is also a poet explain to the girl the evolution of number reading and expressing in the pass of years since the roman numbers.

The mathematician explains to Alice what represents a worm hole that is a pass to another dimension. Later they found a worm hole where they go to explore number land, and then they saw a card painting where Alice recognizes that it was Alice in wonderland book. And she discovers that he was Lewis Carroll or his real name Charles Dodgson, Then they saw the cards arguing about what would be the proper way to paint with same amount of color a rose tree with 7 roses, a mathematic problematic because the queen didn’t like prime numbers and 7 was a prime number, so the queen got very angry. Then Charles start explaining sequences to the queen explaining her how the N term works for every sequence that she wants to use as an example ( N+1, N+2,N+3).

The Queen offers them to be their joker and the second queen but they reject the offer and the queen order to bring the 0x , a number who everyone fears because 0x by any number was 0 so it disappears, but Charlie was clever so as he was the joker he became the queen of hearts and ordered to leave them alone, they obey as he was right with his theory of being a joker, they leave and take the cero with them. They walk to go to the labyrinth, but after they talk about the dislike of the queen in prime numbers where cero explains that prime numbers doesn’t have a pattern and the queen of hearts is a maniac of order, and there’s any formula to get all prime numbers, using again examples of sequences and N term. Then another argue comes into topic the cribbing of numbers and how sums are multiplications in a way, 4x3 is 4+4+4 and Alice recognizes how she never had seen math in that way. Then comes topics also very important in math and Alice is very interested to learn topology in a fun way, as she learn that topology is when a silhouette can take any ways without altering its actual content like a mass of pizza or silly putty.

They enter to the labyrinth where they hear a noise of an animal is the monster of the labyrinth it was a cow girl who starts arguing with Alice where the cow girl teach Alice the commutative property of multiplication with roman numbers ordered in 4 lines of 5 where she said 4x5 is the same as 5x4, and then applying it to the math tables that she didn’t know or that she ignored like the 7. The Cow girl was a queen of multiplication and tables she teaches Alice multiplication tricks for all kind of multiplications like in the table of 9 how numbers were getting higher and lower each times in each math figure. The cow girl let Alice go with a smile on his face the smiling cow.

They find the way out of the labyrinth and they found themselves on the desert of King Shirham where they talk about a big debt that the king was paying with weath and they play a match of chess with him where they win immediately so he gives them a carpet where Charlie teach Alice a trick to walk in diagonal on the forest of numbers that’s why the name of the chapter, the trees had balls in their high parts that represented the numbers explaining some arithmetic techniques and successions and progressions where they end arguing about the names in arithmetic’s and math in general and Charlie explains her its importance of short names in her common live, and also a technique that a young boy had discovered in math, Charlie was teaching math to Alice and she was enjoying it in a unconscious way, even problems with arithmetic and geometric formulas and progressions ( like chess), the ones that Alice hated the most because she didn’t understand them. Then they went to the tea time with the Mad Hatter and the Hare where they teach them equivalent fractions, and the different ways to express a proportion (0,5) is the same as 50% and etc. And Charlie explains to them a simple topic, the unit reading and difference between units, units, tens and hundreds and even grams and kilograms and other terms related to physic mass and metric system( centimeters, cubic centimeters). After that they found themselves with the cashmere cat who teaches Alice how to solve equations using logic, and helping Alice to not hate math equations with a problem with a block. Finally Charlie teach the girl how to solve a magic cube with logic math and error checking proving its wrong. Alice shows how she can use different techniques learned like the one of Gauss to solve other kind of stuff. Then they met the math magician who teach Alice about exponents and math powers division of powers, its decomposition and the different ways to express sums, finally learning the Fibonacci sequence and its importance. Then Alice woke up…
