Introduction

The blueberry is a fruit from northern hemisphere, since a lot of time people who live in this part of the planet used to eat these fruits directly picked in the plants of this region. By this way it created a tradition of consumption with the different way to cook it. Nevertheless currently the biggest part of blueberry which is consumed on earth is from wild. Blueberry is more cultivated in Europe than in America. It’s an interesting business to implement because the increasing demand the prices haven’t suffered important variations if we consider the augmentation of export volumes. However, it has to consider that it’s a business which needs a lot of involvement, a good technology and also have high costs of implantation.

Product features

In botany, a berry is the most common type of simple fleshy fruit. With respect to its common meaning, we can find berries like strawberry , blueberry , blackberry or raspberry. The difference in the definition is that the other kind of berries are formed by other parts of the plant than the ovary , making fruit botanically considered as a false berry . However, we refer to any berries as sweet and brightly colored fruit. Blueberries is a growing industry, identified by some institutions as one of the top 10 fastest growing industry in 2008 , combining: nutritional content , antioxidant qualities and commercial success.

Area: You can find blueberries in Europe (Alps, central Apennines, and Pyrenees), Asia, Central America, USA and Canada. From the ecological point of view, this is an important plant not only for its fruit but also because it protects the forest.

Blooming: The blueberry bloom from April to June. It is important to pick them without damages and they can be eaten freshly picked.

We want to export our berries all around the world and show at all the people that the berries are good for their taste but also for their goods property for Health

Promotion: Currently there have a lot of ways of promotion, television, radio, newspapers, specialized magazine, sponsors and even social medias. The first step, promote our product in specialized magazine (about healthy food) and then reach and bigger panel of customers by do promotion in more popular medias (television and radio for example).

The product has to keep a good image and his healthy characteristics to keep his first consumers, while still growing by entering bigger markets.

Production characteristics

Blueberries harvested mechanically, have a good productivity index for fresh market (50%). When it is a manually harvested, the productivity index is optimal (90%).

Preservation: The duration of the post harvest life of fresh fruit, preserving its qualities of taste, texture and appearance, is crucial to the business strategy. The more widespread is this period, will be better positioned the company to choose the kind and proportions of a product that will be marketed (fresh, frozen or processed), the ways of transport used (air or sea) and the planning of shipments.
