Introduction

“India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only.”

- Mark Twain.

India is a very interesting country with a very old culture and different manners which immerse to its visitors in a travel of history, spirituality and discovery. From the Saris silk intense colors to the aquamarine Indian Ocean, it gives us a dissonance of interesting places, sounds and amazing scents.

The official languages in India are the Hindi and the English, but there are 17 more that are recognized to as official, some of them are: Bengali, Oriya, Sanskrit, and Nepali. Besides those, you can find another 1652 dialects.

In this essay we want encourage the people to visit India, giving some interesting characteristics like touristic places, traditional food, clothes, culture, religion and many others features of this awesome place.

Tourism

If you go to India these are the places that you must visit no matter what, they are amazing and it is an experience you will never forget. Don’t think twice, just GO!

• Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal (now one of the seven wonders worldwide since 7 2007) was built between 1631 and 1654 in the city of Agra, by the Mussulmen Emperor Sha Jhan of the Mogol dynasty. The gorgeous structure was built in honor to his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died giving birth to her 14th child; by the death of his wife the king demand national mourning for 2 years.

Around 20,000 labors collaborated to create the majestic edification; the Emperor had the best architects and decorators to his will. When finished all the labors, hands were cut off so that they could not make a better monument.

• Raj Ghat

The Raj Ghat is also known as the grave of Gandhi which is a place located in the old Delhi (South of New Delhi). It is a monument in honor to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Modern India. The rest of him and his family were incinerated there. It is a calm place where you can isolate from the chaos of New Delhi.

• Connaught place

Like any other city India has its own mall. It is not a traditional market, it has stores with international brands, restaurants and pubs, but it is a beautiful Victorian structure that worth visiting.

• Rashtrapati Bhavan

Is the residence of the Indian president located in New Delhi, was built 100 years ago is a huge “house” with 340 rooms, is more convenient to visit in February cause the residence gardens are open to public.

• Bombay

This city is the most populated in all India. Is an island located in the Arabian sea. The principal language is the Marathi with the 49% of speakers, and 200 languages more.

You can find the Prince of Wales Museum, and the Mani Bhavan Mahatma Ghandi Museum.

Culture.

India’s culture is very diverse, have a lot of interesting traditions some are orthodox but in general they are unique.

• Kumbh Mela

The Kumbh Mela is biggest festival in the world, it is celebrated every 12 years, and millions of people gather. By 2001 more than 60 millions of people assisted and is a record Guinness.

The Kumbh Mela is a fundamental myth of the Hinduism. The story is about the gods and demons allied to create the immortality nectar, named Amrita. They created it, but the demons stole it, and the caused a divine battle that lasted 12 days and 12 nights, which are equals as 12 human years.

During this battle a lot of drops of Amrita fall over 4 different cities of India, which are Praiag, Hardwar, Ujjain, and Nasik; the 4 cities were the Kumbh Mela is celebrated. The last event of the festival is when the people walk into the Ganges River because they believe that in the moment they submerge in the water they will be acquitted from all their sins, and the next 88 generations.

• Snakes Dancers

In the markets is common to see a man playing a flute and make a snake dance as the music sounds. And interesting fact is that those snakes are deaf they don’t dance because the music, they dance cause the move of the flute.

• Clothes

The traditional Indian dress involves many variables in colors and styles depending of the region you’re at, and many factors like the weather.

The popular styles of dressing include simple clothes like the sari for the women, and the dhoti for men; some other popular clothes are the salwar kameez, and kurta-pyjamas for women, and the shirts, and European style pants for men.
