This is my history…….

In seventh grade life was simple, as it should be for any twelve year old kid. Our greatest concerns were that it might rain and there would be no baseball after school. Looking back I wouldn´t have had it any other way, for we didn´t miss a thing.

In the springtime I used to get up early so that I could ride my bicycle the 3 miles uphill to school. Every morning I would meet my friends for a game of baseball before school started. We played in shorts or blue jeans or whatever we had.

My friend John had and used bike and we like to race down to the ball field. There was always something that was not working right on it and the chain fell off quite frequently. On this particular afternoon john´s bike failed.

We left it and I offered to give him a ride back home on my bicycle after practice. We practiced all afternoon catching fly balls. After that we jumped onto my bike and headed back home. Since it was downhill most of the way it was going to be a pretty easy trip, or so we thought.

Whit the added weight I wanted the bike to go right, but our mass wanted to keep going straight. I leaned into it and tried to pull away, just in time to land the front tire into a pothole. The tire caught end violently jerked out of my hands.

I slid and hit the ground. John being fortunate landed not right behind me, but right on top of me.

When the dust settled, we got up, looked at each other and my friends asked “What happened? Did the brakes fail?” We both busted up laughing and sat down to catch our breath.

My T-shirt was covered in blood running down under my chin. We picked up our stuff, loaded back on the bike and as usual my friend walked away without a scratch.

We had lot of fun growing up in that time; I wouldn´t trade those memories for anything.
