Panama, Panama

Panama City is the capital of the Republic of Panama, in the province of Panama and head of the homonymous district. It is the largest and most populous city in the country, officially reaching 880,691 inhabitants within their municipality and 1,206,792 inhabitants in its metropolitan area, which includes several jurisdictions as the city-district of San Miguelito. It is located on the Gulf of Panama in the Pacific Ocean, east of the mouth of the Panama Canal. Founded on August 15, 1519 by Pedrarias Dávila rancheria near a cave they called Panama. (Hector)

This multicultural city full of contrasts, offers much more than the obligatory visit to the Canal. The shanty towns crammed with dazzling towers. The old town is a maze of picturesque churches, plazas and palaces. A 25 km from the center of the city include the National Sovereignty Park, the perfect place for hiking and bird watching. To enjoy unbeatable views of the Canal, take a taxi or bus to Miraflores Visitor Center and naval traffic below. (Braulio)

The city of Panama is the only Latin American capital surrounded by tropical forests and its center is easily accessible to the three national parks declared Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site. Being there in those woods, it seems that this inroads to inhospitable places and surrounded by wildlife; all that within ten minutes from the city. (cecibel)

Panama are located in one of the largest international financial centers in Latin America with 94 banks, of which 60 are National, 24 International Banking System and 9 banks Banca representation. The National Banking System has assets of B / 29.100 billion and 284 branches throughout the country, of which 132 are located in the Municipality of Panama.(alejandro)

The Old Town was declared a World Heritage Site. The Old Town is a mixture of different architectural styles, reflecting the cultural diversity of the country. Caribbean, Republican, modernism, colonial French and mingle in a place less than 800 buildings. Most of the major sights of the city of Panama are in the Old Town: the Bolivar Hall, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Theatre of Panama (founded in 1908), the monument of The Vaults, the church of La Merced, the San Felipe Neri Church, the Church of San José with its distinctive golden altar which was saved from Panama La Vieja and transported to the new city.(Rogelio)
