Characteristics of music in Mexico

The music of Mexico is very diverse and features a wide range of musical genres and performance styles. It has been influenced by a variety of cultures, most notably indigenous Mexican and European, since the Late Middle Ages.

Many traditional Mexican songs are well-known worldwide, including Bésame Mucho (Kiss Me a Lot), La Bamba (The Bamba), Solamente una vez (English version "You Belong to My Heart"), La Bikina (The Bikina), Cielito Lindo (Beautiful Sweetheart), Somos Novios (We Are Lovers; English version "It's Impossible"), El Rey (The King),María Bonita (Pretty María), México Lindo y Querido (Beautiful, Beloved Mexico). La Cucaracha (The Cockroach), although popularized during theMexican Revolution, is a Mexican corrido.

Mexico is rich in musical history, both for their contributions to this universal art form, for the incorporation of valuable influences which have enriched its evolution here.

Music is part of the daily lives of our peoples. In fact, the Mexican culture is unthinkable without the presence of music. From the rites of the ancient Mexicans, to the festivities of the indigenous peoples who struggle to keep their traditions alive to the rhythms of art that place our country among advanced flows this art.

Fashions have come and gone, however, both popular music as foreign rhythms that Mexicans have joined willingly, have passed through the sieve of quality and as usually happens, which is good, remains.
