The Nahuatl isn’t a dialect, it´s a language

The Nahuatl is a language but in these days exist people saying Nahuatl and others languages like Maya, Mixteco, Zapoteco and all-around others fifty languages that are speaked in Mexican territory are dialects, this idea is transmit from person to person every day, many people don´t have idea which is the difference between these significances (language and dialect) , the society with the time have categorized like dialect these languages, this is an incorrect conception of the dialect meaning, one conception that we have to change to preserve our cultural richness, because this is a problematic that harms to all speakers of these languages peyorize them.

Speaking about the meaning of dialect, The Royal Academy Dictionary of Spanish Language declares in their dictionary a dialect is "a linguistic system considered in relation to the group of the various derivatives of a common trunk, this derivation it´s giving for a determinate geography territory" and equally says a dialect is "a variety of a language that does not reach the social category of language". With this definitions that The Royal Academy Dictionary of Spanish Language give us we can observe the negative in some sectors of society to admit the value of these languages and their tryings to peyorize them, when a dialect it´s a simple variation of one language.

We can observe a lot of examples of dialects, one dialect is the Spanish because Spanish have a lot of variations that depend of the territory where speak it , these variations are the dialects, like Spanish of Spain, Spanish of Mexico, or any Spanish of some South America region. Other clear example is English because English have principantly three dialects these are English British, English American and English Australian. Basically we can distingue one dialect for three characteristics:  Even if they are different, they are mutually intelligible without needing prior learning; that are part of a politically unified territory and that they have a common writing system and share a literary tradition.

There are some reasons why some people say that languages like Nahuatl are dialects, one of these is the number of speakers of that language, the richness of the speakers or the "lack" of literal tradition. Although we have records of a great literal tradition that is reflected in a hundred of poems and songs in these languages, and these languages have a difficult structure like other languages, some people continue to say this out of ignorance but there are people who say it for other reasons, such as who do not want to accept the value of these languages to come from speakers with low social status, people who live in underdeveloped zones.

To conclude we must respect the value of these languages and don’t fall in mistakes by follow superstitions false about politic, riches or regions, these languages do not lack anything to be languages, they are complete languages, they are as complete and difficult as the Spanish, English, French or anything language else, so why we peyorize them? ,we have to leave wrong definitions and call things by their name, we have to accept the value of these languages, doing this we do our part to preserve our diversity and culture like Mexicans.
