The salaries scales of industrial engineers

The main objective of this document is to analyze and compare the medium wages an industrial engineer earns in a year, and as well a comparison in the top industries in which they work, such as:

  • Aerospace product and parts manufacturing
  • Computer and electronic product manufacturing
  • Engineering services
  • Machinery manufacturing
  • Motor vehicle parts manufacturing

At first, the industrial engineer is highly needed in the U.S.A given the large number of companies whose main income is related to a manufacturing process, therefore an industrial engineer works to improve and manage this kind of processes. They work on strategies to improve operations by a better use of the employees, machinery and other assets. They can design a new process when it is required, so, it means, they do not only improve an already installed process, but they are involved in the design of new processes, as well.

Coming back to the topic, in the U.S.A, the average salary for an industrial engineer is 83,470 USD per year, meaning that the income is close to the 40 USD per hour subject to the skills gained by them, as for example we can find, project management, process improvement and data analysis.

As for the industries they work, we find, that there are the aeronautic and the vehicle industries where an industrial engineer earns the most and this could be supported by the fact that, in the U.S.A, these have a huge impact in the economy of that country and some of the main names in these areas are General Motors Corporation, The Boeing Company and Ford Motor Company.

Back in Colombia, we found that they are highly required by SME (Small and Medium/sized enterprise), because we find ourselves in a growing economy, where this kind of enterprises need to be more competitive to become more attractive to the foreign investment. The average wage, an engineer earns, is about 2000 USD per month, making this sharply low in comparison with the wage in the United States.  A contributor factor could be, the fact that the cost of living in Colombia is beneath contempt low in comparison with the one in U.S.A
