ABSTRACT
In these times, families come in all kinds of shape and size. Some of them are traditional: a mom, a dad, a pet and 2.5 children. Other families are completed in a alternative sense of the word: a father in a home, a mother and a father in separate homes, or children being raised by grandparents, uncles or aunts. Increasingly, some families have mothers and fathers of the same sex, adding another new dimension to the idea of the family unit. The adoption by gay couples or lesbians is a controversial topic, and it is important to consider both the potential disadvantages as the advantages.
The gay adoption is also referred to as the adoption of parents of the same sex. This allows couples of the same gender be legally recognized as parents of a minor. In some situations, the child may be the biological child of one of the parents. This situation can occur when the father was divorced or the wife of the father dies, and the father has a change in their sexual preferences and found a couple of the same sex. While there are traditional arguments against the adoption gay, there are also pros of the same.
