Healthy cells in the body divide grow and die in an orderly fashion. In some cases, the cells display uncontrolled growth somewhere in the body, resulting in a tumor.

These tumors can be benign or malignant, according to the following characteristics:

Benign (non-cancerous) do not propagate and may not constitute a threat to life.

Malignant (cancerous) not only colonize the organ where they are located, their cells break off and enter the blood and lymphatic system, thus staying elsewhere in the body, forming new tumors. This process is known as metastasis and is just at this stage when the disease is more difficult to treat, not impossible.
