68 years ago, the world experienced its first nuclear attack; the United States of America detonated a uranium gun-type fission bomb code-named “Little Boy” over the 350,000 people city of Hiroshima, directly killing 80,000 with just the blast, and over 140,000 people by the end of the year. In that day, the world realized the destructive potential of a nuclear weapon and recognized the importance of creating regulations and international laws, and humanity promised to see a world free of nuclear weapons of mass destruction Unfortunately six-decades later, we have yet to achieve this state.
The delegation of the United States is a Nuclear-Weapon State, and will not achieve complete disarmament in the near future, unless, the United States can be certain that the safety of our fellow countrymen can not be endangered by a nuclear threat. The delegation of the United States is currently working directly with Russia under the recently signed New START treaty, with the mission of reducing the number of nuclear weapons, launchers and materials needed for the development of these. The Delegation of the United States of America is deeply concerned with the nuclear situation the international community is facing, technology and globalization has made the process of becoming a Nuclear-Weapon State cheaper and easier, and the flow of materials needed to create a nuclear weapon has increased frighteningly in the International Black Market.
The Delegation of the United States is urging this assembly to resolve and enforce more severe sanctions to countries that, without the permission of this agency, are trying to achieve a Nuclear Weapon State. The Delegation of the United States is also aware that new regulations need to be implemented to the countries that currently own a large amount of nuclear weapons and encourages fellow Nuclear-Weapon States to reduce the bellicose nuclear activity. On the other hand, the main responsibility of the delegation of the United States lies with its citizens and their safety, future and freedom, which is why, the United States is prepared, and will act against states that show development and investment in bellicose material, research and tests that are of nuclear nature. The Delegation of the United States is prepared to support states that want to enjoy the benefits of safe nuclear power, with the condition that the United States maintains direct involvement, along with the International Atomic Energy Agency, throughout the process.
