Biography
His parents are Patricia and Basil Russo, a lawyer and former judge. Anthony and Joe Russo grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where they attended Benedictine High School. The Russo brothers graduated from Case University of Western Reserve, where they began to write, produce and direct their first feature film, "Pieces." They financed the film through the students and the credit cards. After seeing his feature film at a film festival, Steven Soderbergh approached the audience and offered his next film, along with his production partner George Clooney. This project was the comedy-crime "Welcome to Collinwood", released in 2002 and starring William H. Macy, Sam Rockwell and George Clooney.
Kevin Reilly, executive of the television channel Fx, hired the Russo to direct the pilot episode of the series "Lucky", having liked the work of the couple in Welcome to Collinwood. Ron Howard, who liked the pilot episode, helped the brothers get hired to direct the pilot episode of Stopped Development on the Fox network. The Russo brothers won an Emmy for their work in that episode.
In 2006, the Russo brothers returned to the movies, directing the comedy "You, Me and Dupree," starring Owen Wilson. The film grossed 140 million dollars worldwide. In 2007, the Russo worked as executive producers and directors of the ABC series "Carpoolers". In addition, he served as executive producers and directors in the first five seasons of the NBC series "Comunidad" and "Happy Endings," on ABC.
At the 2012 San Diego International Comics Convention, Marvel Studios announced that the Russo brothers would be in charge of the next movie in their movie universe, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film was released on April 4, 2014, raising around 715 million dollars at the worldwide box office.
The Russo cite as major influences in their work to sitcoms "MASH", "Taxi", and "Cheers". His younger sister, Angela Russo-Otstot, has also worked in television, as a screenwriter and producer in "V" and "Trust Me", among other series.
In January 2014, the Russo brothers signed a new contract with Marvel to direct the third film of the Captain America saga, entitled Captain America: Civil War, and premiered on May 6, 2016. In May of 2014, it was given know that the Russo will co-write and direct the film "The Gray Man", and in March 2015, will be announced as the directors for the restart of "The Ghostbusters", which will be produced by the new Sony company, Ghost Corps. On March 23, 2015, it was confirmed that the Russo brothers addressed the two parts of "The Avengers: Infinity War," whose releases are scheduled for 2018 and 2019, respectively.
