Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who became one of the most well-known victims of the Holocaust. She was born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany. In 1933, her family moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to escape the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany.

During World War II, when the Nazis occupied the Netherlands, Anne and her family went into hiding in a secret annex above her father's business premises in Amsterdam. They lived there with another family, the van Pels, and a dentist named Fritz Pfeffer. Anne's diary, which she received as a gift on her 13th birthday, became her trusted confidant and a means of expressing her thoughts and feelings.

The group lived in hiding for more than two years, from July 1942 to August 1944. During that time, Anne documented her experiences, fears, and dreams in her diary, which she named "Kitty." She wrote about the daily challenges of living in confinement and her aspirations for the future. Her diary also provided a glimpse into the hardships faced by Jewish people during the Holocaust.

Tragically, in August 1944, the annex was discovered by the Nazis, and the occupants were arrested. They were sent to concentration camps, and Anne and her sister Margot were eventually transferred to the Bergen-Belsen camp in Germany. Both sisters died there, likely in early 1945, due to typhus. Anne was only 15 years old at the time of her death.

After the war, Anne's diary was discovered and saved by one of the family's helpers, Miep Gies. Anne's father, Otto Frank, the only member of the group to survive the Holocaust, published her diary in 1947. The diary, titled "The Diary of a Young Girl" or "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl," has since been translated into numerous languages and has become one of the most widely read books in the world. It offers a poignant and personal account of the Holocaust, and Anne's writing has touched millions of readers worldwide.
