Diana Frances Spencer, better known as Lady Di, was born on the first of July of 1961 in Paris. She was an activist, altruist and British aristocrat. Youngest daughter of John Spencer VIII and Frances Ruth Burke Ronche 8th Viscountess of Arthorp. Later, the world would crown her as “Princess of the town”.
She had an interesting childhood. She grew up with three siblings: Sarah, Jane and Charles. Her little brother, John died a one year after Diana´s birthday. His family was of small nobility although they were close to the British royal family. In her childhood she spent her early years at the family residence of Sandringham, where she received her first education at home.
Diana was baptized on August 30, 1961, in a church called Saint Mary Magdalene located in Sandringham. In 1963 Diana´s family moved to the Park House, Norfolk. Property of the Queen´s Estate. When she was 9 years old, her father Spencer sent her to the Riddlesworth immersion school and when she was 10 years old she entered in West Heath, another boarding school in Kent Country.
Since a very early age, Diana began to show interest in looking for good things. She was very kind and affectionate to the people around her, she liked be funny and sometimes makes jokes. She also really liked posing for the photos. Her mother said that Diana really liked animals and she loved any small and furry creature. So, she came to have various pets like dogs, rabbits, hamsters and even horses. At the age of 14, she received a pony that she would later call Soufflé, brought from a distant island.
Finally, when she was 16 years old, she moved to the Institute Alpinfe Videmanette where she finished her studies in 1978. Upon returning to England, she moved to London permanently, where she returned with her two sisters to her mother´s property.
A year before, in November 1977, Diana met Prince Charles for the first time, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II at Althorp House. At that time, Charles was only 29 years old. At that moment, Prince Charles was dating Diana´s older sister, Sarah. However, by February 1978 Charles ended their relationship after being seen with Sarah in Klosters in Switzerland. In 1980, the family of Charles and Diana were invited to a country weekend during the summer at a celebration of a mutual friend Philip Pass in Sussex, the two caused interest when Diana saw him playing polo, and Charles became interested in Diana as his possible girlfriend.
Although nothing happened at that meeting, later at other events they met again and began to be closer. For instance, Prince Charles invited Diana on his British yacht for a sailing weekend to West Cowes. He additionally sent her an invitation to Balmoral, a castle belonging to the royal family where Prince Charles invited to meet Diana´s family in November of that same year.
In September, it was revealed that Diana was staying at a private royal residence in the Scottish Highlands, where it came to light that she was dating Prince Charles.
In February 1981, Prince Charles proposed marriage to Diana at Windsor Castle, the engagement is formally announced to the public on February 24, 1981, After the agreement, Diana left her occupation as a nursery teacher´s assistant, and moved briefly into Clarence House, which was the home of the Queen Mother.
Diana chose her own engagement ring, so Charles presented her with a beautiful sapphire and diamond ring, in fact it was her Queen mother who showed her a selection of engagement rings.
In March, Charles flies to Australia and New Zealand for five weeks, where Diana is later photographed crying in an airport. The press revealed that between those weeks Diana met Camila Parker Bowles. Where later, Diana would find out about a phone call made by her fiancée to Camila, telling her that she “misses her and wishes they were together”. This broke Diana´s heart.
