Crónica de una muerte anunciada es una novela del escritor colombiano Gabriel García Márquez, publicada por primera vez en 1981.

Para García Márquez, su novela representó un acercamiento entre lo periodístico y lo narrativo, y una aproximación a la novela policíaca. La historia contada se inspira en un suceso real, ocurrido en 1951, del que el autor tomó el suceso central (el crimen), los protagonistas, el escenario y las circunstancias, alterándolo narrativamente, pero sin descuidar nunca los datos y las precisiones obligadas en toda crónica periodística.

Chronicle of a death foretold is a novel by the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, first published in 1981.

For García Márquez, his novel represented a rapprochement between the journalistic and narrative, and an approximation to the detective novel. The story is loosely based on a real incident in 1951, which the author took the central event (the crime), the protagonists, the scenario and the circumstances, altering it narrativamente, but without ever neglecting the data and the details required in any journalistic Chronicle.

En un pequeño pueblo, cercano a la costa caribe y prácticamente aislado, se casan Bayardo San Román, rico y recién llegado, y Ángela Vicario. Tras celebrar su boda, los recién casados se retiran a su nueva casa, después de lo cual Bayardo descubre que su esposa no es virgen. Cuando lo descubre, devuelve a Ángela Vicario a la casa de sus padres donde la madre de la chica le da una paliza. Ángela culpa de lo sucedido a Santiago Nasar, joven y querido vecino del pueblo
