OUTLINE
WARM UP
- Have Ss stand up.
- Ss will be asked some questions on their plans:
- Who would like to get married?
- Who would like to have children?
- Who would like to learn another language?
- Who would like to buy a car?
- Who would like to finish University?
- Have Ss go down if their answer is positive.
- Have Ss stand up, or keep in this initial position, if their answer is positive.
- Have Ss keep in the same position until their answer to a following question changes.
VOCABULARY BUILD UP
- Ss wil be shown a family tree.
- Ss will be shown some sentences which they have to complete using some pre-given vocabulary form the book:
husband / grandparents / cousin / sister / mother / grandson / wife / daughter / aunt
- Ss will be asked what the relationship is in between two selected members of the family. E.g. Fred is Rob’s grandfather, so Rob is Fred’s grandson.
- The activity will continue until all the vocabulary is used.
PRE-READING ACTIVITY
- Ss will be asked some questions on the picture:
- What can you see in the picture?
- Where are the two women?
- What are they doing? (talking) What about?
- What do they look like?
- Ss answers will be listened.
- Some concept questions can be made if necessary.
READING ACTIVITY/PRESENTATION
- Have Ss listen and read the conversation between Lucy and Amber.
- Check Ss’ predictions.
POST-READING ACTIVITY
- Ss will be made some comprehension questions on the reading:
- Who is Amber shopping with?
- What is her cousin doing at that moment?
- Why isn’t Amber at work?
- What is she doing in that week?
- When is Amber getting married?
- Is Lucy going to Amber’s wedding?
- Have those questions written on the board.
- Have Ss answer those questions.
ACTIVITY 1
- Have Ss work in trios by numbering them from 1 to 9.
- Once Ss are in teams, they will be provided with a hand out on the uses of present continuous:
- Reference to the future.
- Reference to something happening now.
- Reference to a temporary state.
TEAM 1 (reference to the future)
Amber needed white shoes because she is getting married.
- Is Amber in her wedding at that moment?
- When is her wedding?
- Why does the verb “getting” have double “t”? Observe more examples: cutting, running, shopping.
TEAM 2 (reference to something happening now)
Amber’s cousin is looking for a dress at the moment.
- Where is Amber’s cousin?
- Is the action happening now?
- Circle appropriate key words similar to at the moment.
Right now yesterday now tomorrow
TEAM 3 (reference to a temporary state)
Amber is spending a lot of time in shops in her week off.
