Why I want to be a nurse
Working in health care is something that I’ve always wanted to do. For as long as I can remember, Science has been a passion of mine. In Cuba, after college, I studied nursing for two years before switching to medicine. I completed the medicine program at the “Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de la Habana”. That experience was very rewarding to me. I loved communicating with patients and making their visit both comfortable and educational.
Ever since arriving in the United States 3 years ago, I’ve been meaning to pursue a career in nursing. It’s a career field expected to experience tremendous job growth and it’s a path that will stimulate my mind and make me feel productive. I decided to do it through your program after talking to a family friend who completed the nursing program at your school. She spoke about how well the program prepared her to become a registered nurse.
I currently work for a company that manufactures plastic parts for commercial trucks and buses. I’ve been working there for over two years. I started as an Operator / Assembler but soon after, I was promoted to Lead Operator. Then I was offered an Accounting position. Now, because the hours are better, I work as an Operator / Assembler during the day and also do accounting tasks in the afternoon. I get all along with everybody and I constantly receive positive feedback from my superiors in regards to the way I work. I am very organized and efficient.
I truly believe that my background and my desire to never stop learning and improving are essential assets to becoming a great nurse in the United States. I am energetic, compassionate and want to work in a caring profession that helps people get well or stay healthy.
Sincerely,
Rogelio Maduga Pau
