What is extinction?
A species becomes extinct when the last existing copy , dies. Therefore, the extinction becomes a certainty when no member able to reproduce and form a new generation. Also a species may become functionally extinct when only survives but a tiny number of members who are unable to reproduce due to poor health , age, geographic distance due to a very large range, for lack of individuals of both sexes ( species that reproduce sexually ) , or other reasons.
Why do animals become extinct ?
Humans can cause extinction of a species due to over-exploitation of environment, pollution , habitat destruction , introduction of new predators or competitors, over- hunting, among other reasons.
Overpopulation The overwhelming growth of the human population , the disproportion that natural resources are used , as well as lifestyle and overconsumption are seriously affecting the species and their habitats. Overexploitation of resources in excess Exploiting the resources of nature are fragmented , degraded and lost habitat and consequently the species that live in them . Endemic species are the first to disappear. Habitat destruction Dismantling habitats to create agricultural areas is one of the practices that affect the species , because they lose their source of food, shelter and home. The most affected are the endemic species.
