Biodiesel as an alternative

A biofuel is a mixture of organic substances used as fuel in internal combustion engines. Derive from biomass, organic matter originated in a process biological, spontaneous or induced, used as a source of energy.

On biofuels and even more with biodiesel, there has been much controversy regarding its production is concerned, as there are two views: the environmental aspect, in which emissions of greenhouse gases are reduced, on the other side of the coin, it is the large amount of natural resources needed for their production, as are, water and oil plants.[pic 1]

It is here where you see the controversy, since over time and when the biodiesel begins to take much more force and is booming, this will be more defendant, which could wipe out some crops that are for consumption human.

In fact, if you implement the biodiesel as fuel in replacement for petroleum, this should be well standardized because although biodiesel reduces greenhouse gases, does not contain benzene or other other carcinogenic aromatic substances, there are keep in mind that for their production, the raw material need be of organic origin. We could reach a point where biofuel production, will be more important than agricultural production for human and animal consumption, or change of use of land devoted to food, the cultivation of vegetables intended to produce bicombustible, on other occasions causing deforestation or drying of virgin land or jungle; a clear example of this is the deforestation of soybeans in the Brazilian Amazon and in Paraguay, before they start producing energy purposes.

Moreover, must be taken into account, that once obtained biodiesel, must be made a washing, this washing should be done with distilled water, which will require greater energy expenditure, also it will use a crucial resource and primary as it is the water, which leads to another problem, Is it going to be more important the water consumption for us or biofuel for transport ?, the answer would seem very clear, water for our consumption. However, for some parts of the industry, it seems not to matter.

In short, the use of biofuels, in a small measure solves environmental pollution, but gets worse other problems such as deforestation and indiscriminate use of water, equally serious problems to pollution by greenhouse gases.

It should be clarify finally, that biofuels, are not itself the problem, the contrary, are a solution that helps meet part of energy needs of our countries. The real problem, is to the model that is planned implement, characterized by the monoculture large- scale, which would be big business for large multinational, which expulsarían to small rural producers and peasants.
