Introduction.
Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila Regional Park, is located on the coastal strip running from Cala Reona and Atalayón hills, to the beach Portman.
Calblanque natural environment constitutes a coastal strip about 1900 hectares, which occupies the southeastern sector of the Campo de Cartagena, between the southern shore of the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Calblanque Beach is an isolated, rustic beach with low occupancy, golden sandy soil and moderate waves. Has a length of 300 meters long and 30 wide. This beach is beautiful and very accessible with parking availability. Is one of the most beautiful of Murcia.
This area has a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, characterized by extensive dry period which coincides with the summer season. The rainfall is scarce. The average annual temperatures ranging from 17ºC to 18ºC. Summers are long and hot and winters are mild and short.
Biocenosis.
Fauna
Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila wildlife is similar to the rest of the coast ranges. Even so, not missing species and features that stand out their singularity.
Also Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila are bird and animals protection areas.
Into their fauna there are:
Mammals like: fox and rabbit, also there are badgers and garduñas.
Birds: In the salt Rasall area, a badly damage ecosystem, we find: storks, flamingos, egrets, plovers and gulls. In the coastal mountain area there are peregrine falcons, owls, Bonelli's eagle and Vulgar Kestrel. The Vulgar Kestrel can be found in open areas with little vegetation but sometimes fly over roads looking for voles and mice. They are dropped onto their prey to kill them easily.
Reptiles: lizard Cinderella, Red-tailed lizard, the Ocellated lizard and the Iberian skink. The Iberian skink measuring only 15 cm. Its color is a dirty white. Its short legs not help it but thanks to its body they are skillful escape reptiles. We can find it particularly in sandy environments with little vegetation but it´s difficult to see it because they are an endemic specie of the Iberian Peninsula.
Fish: in the saltworks there is the fartet, endemic fish of southeastern Spain.
Flora
This natural park has a great diversity of plant species in different ecosystems. Very important are the endemics species and iberoafricanismos, between which stands out the botanical jewel of the park: the mulberry sabina.
There are also Aleppo pine woodland, and are very common fig and carob.
There are species such as palmetto and roamed too.
In the sand there are a variety of junks.
Calblanque salt marshes and saltworks are ecosystems of great biological originality and therefore they are considered habitats of community interest by the European Union. Some of the plants we can find there, are: almarjos, Salicornia, bland and some junks
Location
There are located at southeast of the Región de Murcia(Spain). Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Aguila are in the Sierra minera of Cartagena.
In Murcia we have one of the best coast areas in all of Mediterraneo. Calblanque
Regional Park is located near Cala Reona Atalayón and in the west of Cabo de Palos.
Near Calblanque we have found Peña del guila and Monte de las Cenizas.
