Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman, let me introduce by myself : I’m Andres Camilo Gonzalez, I’m student of international business I tolima’s university.i just want to welcome you all to my presentation.
The purpose of my presentation is show you the FTA signed by my country Colombia.
To start with, I’ll introduce each of the FTA signed by Colombia, after that, I’ll show you some statistics about imports and exports of Colombia, next I’ll explain the trade politics of Colombia for each of the FTA signed.
I’ll try to answer your questions after the presentation
Starting with, the first FTA signed by Colombia was with the Andean Community, Andean Community is formed by Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. This FTA was a great form to do business in South America because in this moment FTA’s wasn’t the predominant political. (Import substitution model was the predominant political). That’s all I have to say about the FTA with Andean Community.
Next the second FTA signed by Colombia was with Mexico in 1994, Venezuela was also in this negotiation but for political problems this country was retired from the negotiations. So much for this FTA
Let me turn now to the FTA signed with Mercosur, Mercosur is conformed by Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, And Uruguay, this FTA was signed in October of 2004. This agreement offered a large market consisting of more than 26 million people, with this FTA established more trade between South America, because with this agreement Colombia Would have 8 FTA signed in South America
Let’s look now at the FTA with Centro American Triangle, Centro American Triangle is composed by the republics of Guatemala, Salvador, and Honduras. This FTA achieved unit the South American Market with the Centro American market. This FTA was signed on Medellin in 2007, so much for Centro American FTA.
I’d like to discuss the FTA signed with EFTA. EFTA is conforming by the European countries like Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Iceland. This FTA was negotiated in 5 rounds; this agreement was the first commercial treat between Colombia and Europe. The agreement was signed in November 25 of 2008 . in the same month Colombia too signed a FTA with Canada in November 21.
