Work with computer

These instructions start with the computer and the GC/MS in a powered off state.

Power ON the computer by pushing the power ON button on the PC.

Power ON the GC by pressing the power switch on its’ front right. Power ON the MS by pressing the red toggle switch which is located on the back left hand side of the MS. (Left hand side as reaching back from being in front of the MS.)

Open GCMSsolution Real Time Analysis by double clicking on the GCMS Real Time Analysis icon.

In the Login window “Admin” is the User ID and there is no password.

After clicking on the OK button you will hear a short beep followed by a longer beep. You will see “Please wait for connection of the instrument” on screen while the PC establishes communication and also loads files from the computer hard drive into memory on the GC and the MS.

Before you start, enable Tab Control so that you can know all of the “child programs” that you have open within Real Time Analysis. The tabs will be shown, starting at the bottom left. They allow changing between all the child program windows that you have open in the middle space of Real Time Analysis. Without Tab Control enabled you cannot see if you have multiple programs open because they will be behind the front program that is last opened.

Also make sure that Instrument Monitor and the Assistant Bar are enabled. The check mark to the left shows that they are enabled.

When changing from one child program to another, such as leaving Tuning and going to Data Acquisition, it is best to close the program that you are leaving first. This is done by clicking on the lower X button in the upper right of the Real Time Analysis window.

Real Time Analysis will open with the same child programs in the center area as when it was last closed. If any child programs are now open then close them as shown to the left. You should have a big blank grey rectangle in the middle of Real Time Analysis.
