To my point of view, Dr Wilkins speaks to the young man in an unpleasant way, which is why I consider it difficult for him to have a friendly relationship with the young people. He should start by asking how they are and what his day

Even if you´re having a bad day, dont forget the basic: make eye contact, smile and be sincere. be sensitive to cultural differences in areas like greeting people, respecting personal space and making smail talk

Set your personal fashion sense anside until the weekendand try to look like the other person. This could mean "dressing to impress" in formal business meeting, but also dressing down in a technical or creative workplace. your clothes, hair, make-up, nails, jewellery, beard or tattos all send messages about you and your values

Use your emocional intelligence to create empathy. Developing an awareness of how feeling and emotions influence attitudes and behaviour will allow you to accentuate similianties and minimize differences between yourself and other people

Take time to find common ground. Finding a connection throuhg your education, experience, family or interests brings you closer and helps build trust. but always be sincere: in the long run, inverting shared interests or experience will only lead to trouble!

Two of the techniques of the web are related to those that I mentioned that is to know the person their tastes to go knowing it and then find topics of conversation, in this case the technique 4 and 5
