Picture the following classroom:

One word describes the look of this room on first glance ­ Chaotic. Displays are deteriorated (pupils’ work isn’t valued); chairs are broken and strewn all over the room. There is trash everywhere and equipment is stored haphazardly. Closer inspection reveals the situation to be far worse. There is a total lack of routine and procedures. Students are told to sit anywhere, wherever there is a spare chair. Some have to sit where they are clearly unhappy and they clearly have no respect for this room, their classmates and for that matter their teacher.
