This essay will talk about the film American Beauty, giving a focus frivolity and superficiality that addresses the film.

The plot revolves around a "typical" American family composed of:

• Lester's father who works to support his family, but not happy developing their work, or at home.

• mother Carolyn presumed to society of having a happy family and be successful at work, while contributing financially is responsible for housework.

• Jane's teenage daughter that nobody understands.

Carolyn (mother) always strives to show that has everything a bride could want, a nice family, good job, nice house, nice furniture, cars and society pretending to be a successful woman in the workplace and in the home. Pretending that everything is under control, but the reality is different, as there is very little communication between these three characters, which causes a growing rift in their relationship, which comes to such a degree that they live together in "family" but actually none cares about the welfare or happiness of the other 2.

Another appears to be something it is not, is a friend of Jane (the daughter). This friend projects the image of all American cheerleader: easy (who flirts with everyone and have sex with one and other without caring about anything). This is done in order to fit in at school, and have some POPULARITY. However at the end of the film is found that only a mask.

Jane (the daughter) feels misunderstood until he meets his new neighbor, which falls as this the first really listen and understand.

Lester (father) lives in a huge way, which decides to stop falling in the networks of friends with his daughter. Decides to take charge of your life and not letting go with the flow, which leads him to blackmail his boss to fire him when you pay more than planned, decided to improve their physical appearance in order to draw attention the friend of his daughter and begins to use marijuana which still motivates him to achieve his goals. Upon discovering that Jane's friend is a virgin, she decided to leave and bring order to your life, take your life with your family, and be happy again. But is murdered that night.

In conclusion, the film tackles a somewhat extreme the certain problems of frivolity and superficiality that can get to be in a family. These can potentially cause other problems and unfamiliar, such as the murder of the father at the end.
