Characterization Arsat (the lagoon)
Probably you can think that Arsat is a good man. Maybe because of his culture. Where men have to be the strongest ones. Where you can’t show pain or feelings, sadness or even although love.
But what do we need to realize that is a coward man? We can think that he is not because he is in a ghostly house, because he was against the Ruler or because he supposedly had the courage to face a lot of warriors and stuff.
From my point of view he is totally selfish. He doesn’t deserved love because he doesn’t know the meaning of that word. What kind of person let you died for his happiness? No one. You must think that each human is responsible for each decision that takes, I totally agree. But when your brother can die for you without asking for something back and you let him alone, I disagree.
The reason because they died was in this part: “My ribs were ready to burst, but I could no longer get enough air into my chest. And then I felt I must cry out with my last breath, "Let us rest!" "Good!" he answered; and his voice was firm. He was strong...
Why did that? He knew that people came for them; there was no time to rest. It was the only opportunity to escape and be safe. At this point you can realize that they had more opportunities to die just because of his fatigue.
'There's no worse enemy and no better friend than a brother’. What a wonderful phrase. Why Arsat said Tuan this? Obviously because he knew what he did. The worse enemy was him Arsat’s brother just was thinking about escape and help him to start a new life in another place. At what moment Arsat thought about him?
“I heard him cry my name twice; and I heard voices shouting, "Kill! Strike!" I never turned back. I heard him calling my name again with a great shriek, as when life is going out together with the voice - and I never turned my head.”
This make me feel upset. At least could turn back to see how his brother was dying for him
