A source of knowledge is base in four ways of knowing: Perception, reason, language and emotion. Reason can be considered a source of knowledge, because it justifies how we act, and by deducing truths from existing knowledge, or by logic .Perception, is a source of knowledge that which can be perceived through the experiences of the senses. In my opinion, reason is more reliable source of knowledge than perception; I will justify this in the following paragraphs.
Reason cannot work without perception. As we learn everything through our five senses which are, sight, sound, touch, taste and smell and by our experiences, there is no way that we can obtain knowledge without perception. What we sense is later improved into logic and it transformed into reliable facts. Reasoning usually is used in maths because it is more certain, and it involves drawing out valid conclusions from previously known facts. For example, all dolphins are mammals; Bob is a dolphin, so Bob is a mammal. The problem with reason is that deduction cannot teach us anything new because all the information is there.
As I mentioned, perception is a source of knowledge, which involve our five senses. It, indeed, plays a key role in almost all areas of knowledge ranging from history through the arts to the sciences. The problem with perception is that our senses are more or less reliable and it cannot give us an accurate picture of the world, so it is no completely trustable. It depends partly on the context, which we see it; for example, we are used to see things in a way, like when we see a figure far away does not necessarily mean it is smaller, that when you see it closer. However perception is also important to learn things, but we have to consider, optical illusions that can affect our knowledge.
For me Reason is more reliable source of knowledge than perception, because it involves trustable facts .You know certain things because you can apply logic and reasoning. For example you know that two times four is eight, it is not because someone told your or because your sense of perception. You know the answer because you can calculate and resolve it by applying math rules.
Other people say that perception is a more reliable source of knowledge because you use your senses, and you can see and perceive things by yourself. However, as I said before not always your senses can give us an accurate picture of the world, they give us useful picture, that means that it tries to help us move around, survive and take advantage of our world. If you think about it we know that cellphone are solid, but they are really made of atoms which are actually more space. Our senses tell us that they are solid because of our sense of touch.
In conclusion, Reason for me is more reliable source of knowledge than perception, that it gives us more certain facts by using logic and reasoning. Many time perception can give us a wrong picture of the world, by optical illusion
