Alex Turner
His birth name is Alexander David Turner. He born in January 6th 1986. He is an English musician, singer and songwriter. He is the lead vocalist, guitarist and main songwriter of the English indie rock band Arctic Monkeys. He plays the guitar, keyboards, percussion, bass guitar and drums.
Turner spent most of his teenage years listening to rap artists such as Roots Manuva. His attentions later turned to guitar music, like The Strokes and The Libertines. Turner also admired The Beatles and aspired to be like them. Turner's parents bought him his first guitar for Christmas 2001, so he and his neighbour Jamie Cook with their friends Andy nicholson and Matt Helders founded the band. Following sixth form college, where he studied at Barnsley, his parents not convinced at all, agreed to let him defer university for one year to pursue his musical ambitions. During this time he worked as a barman at the Sheffield venue, The Boardwalk.
Actually, the band consists of Alex Turner in lead vocals and lead/rhythm guitar, Jamie Cook in the guitar, Nick O'Malley on the bass guitar and backing vocals), and Matt Helders in the drums and backing vocals too. Nicholson left the band on may 2006.
The band began rehearsing at Yellow Arch Studios in Neepsend and played their first gig on June 13th 2003 at The Grapes in Sheffield city. Eventually, they signed to Domino in June 2005. Their first single with Domino, "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", was released on October 2005 and went straight to No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart.
