The Twilight Saga: New Moon
The Twilight Saga books and films have proven to be a pop culture phenomenon. The second movie of the franchise, titled The Twilight Saga: New Moon is ranked third in all-time highest opening weekend records, according to the website Box Office Mojo. This movie introduces the audience to one of the main conflicts of the saga: the love triangle between the three main characters and the decision she makes. At the end, Bella chooses Edward for three main reasons: first, Edward is willing to sacrifice his own happiness for her; second, he is always very protective of her; and third, they have an endless love. Edward Cullen is the right choice for Bella due to his selfless actions towards her and their mutual love.
True love allows people to make sacrifices for their loved one. Edward’s sacrifice is to put her happiness before his own. In the movie, Edward breaks up with her so she can have a normal live as a human, thereby saving Bella’s soul. He fears for her soul and worries what immortality can do to her; eternal life for Bella means witnessing her loved ones’ death. Human beings are somehow selfish by nature, but when it comes to the person they love the most, it is possible to give up everything.
The way Edward is always protecting Bella shows how much he cares. One example is when Edward decides to leave Forks. Specifically, the incident with Jasper at Bella’s 18th birthday party is what leads Edward to that resolution. Bella’s well being is very important to him; without a doubt Edward is capable of anything to keep her safe. Fortunately, he realizes that leaving Bella was not the correct choice and promises her he will never fail again.
The love they have for each other is the main reason to choose Edward. At the end of the movie, she assures it has always been him; thus her desire to be with him is greater than anything. Naturally, Edward feels the same way about her and finally accepts her wish to become a vampire; however, he has one condition. His request is to marry Bella to preserve his traditions. Edward wants to be with her in a proper and old fashioned way. Nowadays, this belief is not shared among many young men. If soul mates do exist, Bella and Edward are a perfect example. Their love overcomes many obstacles, including those regarding their human and non human nature.
Bella can only be with the one she loves; whether his personality, the sacrifices he made, or Bella’s feelings for him, Edward is her perfect soul mate. In my opinion, this movie reflects what love is, and these two characters prove it at its best. Love can be the best feeling anyone has ever experienced or the worst. People feel great when they find that special person to spend the rest of their life together. On the other hand, falling in love causes pain when is not a mutual feeling or leads to self-destructive behaviors. If I were Bella, I would definitely choose Edward
