In this important date for Mexico and Hispanic, we believe it is important to remember why it is celebrated. Many people in America think that Mexico celebrates independence, but it is not. This day commemorates the Battle of Puebla, where General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated the then most powerful army in the world, that of France, May 5, 1862.
Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the U.S. and Mexican Pride Day or Columbus Day with mariachis, bullfights, and is confused by the Americans as the Independence Day.
In the Battle of Puebla managed to contain the advance of the French Army, heading to conquer Mexico City after invading the Port of Veracruz because of the declaration of suspension of external debt payments by President Benito Juárez.
