UNIVAC - Then and Now

Since the beginning of time the cave man discovered that they could count with their fingers, this approach had great impact on today’s processing .Counting with the fingers had certain limitations and a new technique was developed causing a virtual information explosion. But the search continued for faster mathematics. As the civilization advanced, as man approached the age of space mathematic calculators became more difficult. The first adding machine was the drawing board soon it became a useful tool solving complex problems .A Scottish mathematician discovered the logarithms. Many inventions could make a difference if they only had worked.

In 1946 two American Scientifics created a tool of data processing it was called electronic data processing it used electricity but then it was replaced by the ENIAC or electronic numerical integrator and computer.

Remington-Rand Presents the Univac

Since the first civilizations, every discovery and advance has helped us to be what we are now. To go forward we have to know where we come from and where are we now. All our efforts are recorded and each time there is more data to handle. To keep track of all these info the UNIVAC was created.

The UNIVAC is an electronic system that allows sorting, classifying and computing both numerical and alphabetical information.

It uses magnetic tapes to transport data from one place to another and works completely automatic. The UNIVAC is able to do work that would take weeks and months in matter of hours.

All info managed by the UNIVAC is recorded with electric impulses and written in binary code, a combination of ones and ceros arranged so they represent different symbols.

To tell the computer what to do with the data, it is necessary to program it, set the instructions that we will give to the computer.

The UNIVAC can be used in any task were data has to be processed or problems resolved, from mathematical and scientific problems to commercial applications.

With the use of UNIVAC, work in all fields of endeavor will be efficiently and rapidly done saving a lot of time and money and will be extremely helpful to future progress.

How Computers Work (video 3)

Computers, what are computers? In this video their trying to explain how computers work by understanding why they do what they do, because a computer is like an electronic brain .first of all we need to know how it parts work like: CPU (central process unit) it contains all the instructions of the computer program and also it distributes all kind of information to other parts of the computer such as images, audio information, data, calculations, etc. it follows instructions to process all the information, it works like a heart. All that information about the program comes from the Hard disk the computer main storage it works
