The story of an hour.

In this story, the writer represents a negative view of marriage, personified by Mrs. Mallard. The story was written in short paragraphs, and each line allows to the reader be interesting in the story because this is written in a simple prose, but each line has a pinch of poetry, that makes the read, easy to reading. The writer makes excessive use of the description, allowing to the reader feels the senses and imagine the scenario as the character as if he were who is in the story. It can be a criticism of the inequality in the marriage in that time, so there is a symbolism in the story, for example, that sensation of “freedom” that Mrs. Mallards feels, who has been following the rules that the society has established, and we can see this in the lines “There would be no one to live for during those coming years; she would live for herself. There would be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women believe they have a right to impose a private will upon a fellow-creature.” The heart trouble can be a symbolism. I mean not only physical problems but all the pain and unhappiness that bring the lack of freedom. The open window also can be a metaphor like “open the eyes” it means, open the windows of all the opportunities and the happiness that freedom can give you, a freedom that the women didn’t have in that time.
