ASTRONOMY

Astronomy (of Astronomy Latin and Greek this ἀστρονομία) 1 is the science that deals with the study of celestial bodies in the universe, including the planets and their satellites, comets and meteoroids, stars and interstellar matter, systems dark matter, stars, gas and dust called galaxies and clusters of galaxies; so studying their movements and phenomena related to them.

Technology

• the invention of the telescope: was required before astronomy was able to develop into a modern science. Currently, the world's largest telescope is called Very Large Telescope and lies at the Paranal Observatory. its invention is attributed to Hans Lippershey, the first to use this invention for astronomy Galileo Galilei was he who decided to build one.

• Radio astronomy: studies radiation with wavelengths greater than approximately one millimeter. Radio astronomy is different from most other forms of observational astronomy in that the observed radio waves can be treated as waves rather than as discrete photons.

• Infrared astronomy: Infrared astronomy is founded on the detection and analysis of infrared radiation (wavelengths longer than red light). The infrared spectrum is useful for studying objects that are too cold to radiate visible light, such as planets, circumstellar disks or nebulae whose light is blocked by dust.

• Gamma rays may be observed directly by satellites such as the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory or by specialized telescopes called atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. The Cherenkov telescopes do not actually detect the gamma rays directly.
