 “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”

  1. Examples:

“As to grow green as grass, and greener yet, it seemed…”

2. The knight is describes as a “gigantic knight” that had a beautiful face and figure. Also every piece of his costume was the color green; hair, beard, horse. He holds a huge green and gold axe in one hand and a holly bob in the other.

3. The knight first asks to see the person in charge.

4. The knight did not come to “fight” because first he claims he comes in peace, and second he said he has no interest in fighting with such young and puny knights. Instead he would like to play a game.

5. When the Knight arrived it was Winter.

6. He wants to play a game in which someone will strike him with his own axe, on the understanding that he gets to return the blow in exactly a year and a day.

7.  In the competition offered by the Green Knight, the night would receive the first blow.

9. The first to strike in the competition would be Sir Gawain

10. The knights turn to strike back was exactly a year and a day after.

11. The king blushes as the knight begins to question the reputation of his followers, to defend his court he decides to take a swing at the axe.

12. The first to accept the Green Knight's proposal of a competition was Sir Gawain.

13. Sir Gawain describes himself as the weakest of Arthur's kings, and this made him worthy for the competition.

16. After Sir Gawain’s stroke the knight was decapitated. But he actually picks his own head up and holds it before him, then he rode out of the hall; even though he was decapitated.

17. Sir Gawain was supposed to meet the green knight in the Green Chapel to comply with the agreement in the competition.

18. Sir Gawain was supposed to meet the green knight in the Green Chapel.

19. He was known as a marvel to many.
