DEATH
Nowadays people is aware that the world becomes a place more competitive than the last years, that’s why they push themselves showing their best; but, Do they realize that everything in excess can affect their health? Specially for working people. Do they really know that keep working for long hours or pushing themselves can affect their life? For all of it, we can say IF we really know what is the connection between over work and death?
First of all, we can say that in our days people know that to keep their work they have to be more efficient than others, that’s why they push themselves working for long hours just to the benefit of the company they work , but this could end as a problem for their health. One example of this is “Karoshi” which is a Japanese term that means a death from overwork, but Karoshi is not the only, this phenomenon also happened in the summer of 2013 at a bank in America, where a 21 year old employee died after working 72 hours straight.
On the second, we must emphasize about the term “karoshi” which happens because for Japanese corporations employees have to work for long hours showing a contribution to the company which is one of the prerequisites for advancement (Okamura and Kawahito, 1990, p.11). And for it, Japanese workers who don’t follow this “rules” are evaluated negatively and sometimes being fired for refusing “the politics” of the company.
In contrast , we can say that is not good to sacrifice yourself over working as in Japan where employees sacrifice their life just for the sake of the group, which is wrong because people must show that they do not enjoy any personal time because of the over work ( Miyamoto, 1995,pp.1-2). As a result of it, people in Japan get stressed, which affects their health and in most of the cases they commit suicide.
According to the Japan Times, over the past decades, more than 300 people suffer heart attack or strokes, and for it they have been awarded. Also 2 years ago (2013) 133 of such people died. And finally employees suffer damage for work which induced mental problems, as a result of this we can see many people that committed suicide.
On the other hand, we can see that this phenomenon not only happens in Japan, another example of over work and its consequences is in China specifically in Foxconn Company where also employees suffer these damage for work and get mental problems pushing them to commit suicide (www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china)
One last example is the US, where a 21 year old employee died after working 72 hours without any rest what is not unusual in our days because many professionals work into the wee hours of the morning and most of the time take their work at home, as a result of it, work begins to take up nearly every waking hour without having time for their common life (CNN)
In conclusion, we can say that nowadays employees suffer of over work which
