María: ¡Soledad! ¡Soledad ¡ Aguarda un momento, necesito que me ayudes padezco de una extraña enfermedad!

Maria: Soledad! Soledad Wait a minute, I need your help I suffer from a strange disease!

Soledad: (Sonríe) ¿Qué yo te cure mujer? Pero… ¿Qué puede hacer una mulata que sin estudios y siendo tan pobre podría remediar tus males?

Soledad: (Smiles) That I cure you woman? But… What can a mulatto woman do who, without studies and being so poor, could remedy your ills?

María: Dicen muchos que con tus yerbas me puedes curar, que son maravillosas.

Maria: Many say that with your herbs you can cure me, that they are wonderful.

Soledad: veo que tienes confianza en mí, anda dime ¿Cómo te llamas buena mujer? Soledad: I see that you trust me, tell me, what's your name, good woman?

María: me llamo María ayúdame Soledad, no es mucho lo que puedo pagar, pero te ofrezco lo que tengo, dicen que a todos los que han acudido por tu ayuda, los ha ayudado de corazón, no solo remediando daño en enfermedades sino también a aquellos que padecen de amores.

Soledad: Dime que te aqueja María y buscare entre mis yerbas para devolverte la salud. Soledad: Tell me what ails you, Maria, and I'll search among my herbs to restore your health.

María: Confió en ti, he acudido con los médicos más renombrados y ninguno ha logrado sanar mis dolencias.

María: I trust you, I have been to the most renowned doctors and none have managed to cure my ailments.

Soledad: ten calma y paciencia maría, ven más tarde a mi casa, cuéntame que padeces y te daré un remedio que acabara con todos tus males.

Soledad: be calm and patient Maria, come to my house later, tell me what you are suffering from and I will give you a remedy that will put an end to all your ills.

María: Gracias, ahí estaré, muchas gracias por brindarme tu ayuda.

(Se acercan a María otras mujeres y le abordan inmediatamente alejándola de Soledad) María: Thank you, I'll be there, thank you very much for giving me your help. (Other women approach María and immediately approach her, taking her away from Soledad)

Jimena: ¿Cómo te atreves a buscarle?

Jimena: How dare you look for him?

Luisa: ¿Acaso no te da miedo?

Luisa: Aren't you scared?

María: ¿Por qué he de tenerle miedo? Si no soy la única que recurre a ella cuando no encuentran cura a sus males ¿acaso no se acuerdan de que ha ayudado a muchos?

Jimena: Dicen que conjura tormentas, predice temblores y cuando el sol se encuentra con la luna, es porque ella así lo quiso, ¿Verdad Luisa?

Luisa: Eso que dicen no es todo, hace embrujos y encantamientos

Jimena: Incluso, por las noches de su choza se ven luces extrañas e intensas y una música misteriosa se escucha. Todo eso da temor y no debe ser nada bueno.

Jimena: Even at night, strange and intense lights are seen in her hut and mysterious music is heard. All this is scary and it must not be a good thing.

Luisa: Otros dicen que tiene pacto con el diablo, es más, no te das cuenta de que han pasado años y ella se conserva joven aún.

María: Pues dirán mucho de ella, pero también no podrán negar que ha ayudado a muchos, devolviéndoles la salud del cuerpo o del espíritu ¿Acaso no es cierto? Tú (señalando a una de ellas) ¿has ido a verla? ¿Se te ha olvidado ya?

María: Well, they will say a lot about her, but they will also not be able to deny that she has helped many, restoring the health of her body or spirit. Isn't that true? You (pointing to one of them) have you been to see her? Has she already forgotten you?

Jimena: Es cierto, pero nunca más acudí, solo…

María: Solo esa vez que te vi, y otras que tal vez no te atreves a confiar a los demás.

Luisa: Pues allá ella, nosotros solo le hemos advertido, esperamos que no tenga que arrepentirse más tarde (se alejan para seguir conversando y María se retira)

Jimena: María es una incrédula, pero cuando se le aparezca el diablo o tenga que entregar cuentas con el creador va a ser demasiado tarde, mira que no creernos a nosotras, hasta de mentirosas nos ha tratado. Te lo dije, María no nos iba a creer dice que son chismes del pueblo, y alcance a escuchar que la visitará a su casa ¿Cómo ves?
