La película comienza cuando Nelson mándela toma posesión de la presidencia de sud África y se encuentra con que la nación está totalmente dividida r un lado está la gente humilde y de color y por otro lado está la gente blanca con dinero y cierto poder sobre el país, lo que Nelson es busca es unir al país y el ve la oportunidad en un deporte llamado Rugby con el equipo de Sudáfrica llamado los Springboky para eso Nelson manda a llamar al capitán del equipo y le platica o más bien le da a entender que es lo que quiere lograr con el equipo, que sean campeones mundiales, pero antes de ir Nelson hace que los jugadores e involucren con los niños del país ara que la gente sea en ellos y ven que si se puede ser un equipo.
