Patriotism

Many people think that patriotism is to enroll in military service, but patriotism is much more than that. I want to become a soldier but in a different way. Patriotism is speaking or acting out when a person feels the country needs it. I show that I am a patriot by voting, helping my community, and respecting the laws of the country.

First, I have the responsibility to vote. I need to spend a little of my time to study and analyze who is the best candidate. I need to see if this candidate offers the best reforms in the laws of my country.

Nevertheless, I could not vote five years ago because I was not a citizen of this beautiful nation. I could do anything to improve and help my country. Now, I can vote in elections. I feel devoted fighting a war to improve my country in a different way.

Next, I love to help my community. If I work efficiently in my neighborhood, I am helping my country to progress. When my family and I go on weekends to help out the children in the South Dade program, we feel like patriots! We are combating for our country. We are fighting for the rights of these children to have a better future. In fact, if every citizen of this country becomes more involved in the work of their community, we would have a country free of drugs and violence.

Finally, I respect the laws of my state. I understand that as a resident of this wonderful country I have an obligation to pay my taxes. My taxes help improve schools, transportation, and health services. On the other hand, many people think is a big penalty to pay their taxes. They believe that the government is stealing your money. However, I feel happy when I pay my taxes. This is a privilege for me. I feel proud because I'm helping my country. I am aware that as a patriotic citizen, I have rights, but also I have obligations and responsibilities.

In conclusion, patriotism is demonstrated not only by being a soldier and fought in the war. In my opinion, patriotism is also shown to be an excellent citizen. I feel like a soldier patriotic when I vote, help my community, and pay my taxes.
