Get up to - do
E.g. What are you getting up to at the weekend?
Get on with (SO) - have a good relationship
E.g. I don’t get on with my mother in law.
Get over (ST, SO) - recover from - recuperarse de
E.g. I’m still getting over the flu.
Get away with (ST) - be successful in something - salirse con la suya
E.g. Do you think I can get away with taking monday off?
Get at (SO) - criticise someone repeatedly - tener de punto a alguien
E.g He’s really getting at us. // My mum is always getting at me to start a family.
Get rid of (ST, SO) - Remove/ throw away something unwanted - tirar, reemplazar
E.g. This washing machine is too old. We need to get rid of it. // I wish we could get rid of him.
Get out of (Doing ST) - Avoid something you don’t want to do.
E.g. I got out of doing that boring project because I said I was too busy.
Get off ligthly - to experience less suffering that expected - estar con suerte
E.g. I think criminals get off lightly in this country. They never get sent to prison for long enough. // We got off lightly for once.
Get through to (SO) - Successfully explain something - comunicar, hacerse comprender
E.g. I can’t get through to my students about the importance of speaking English. // I’ve tried to get through to him.
Get wound up (About ST) - get angry about something
E.g. I get wound up by the neightbour’s dog. He’s always barking and keeps me awake at night. // We shouldn’t get too wound up about it.
Track down - Find after a long search - localizar, ubicar
E.g He has tracked down a copy of the recipe(receta).
Come across - find by chance - encontrase con una persona o cosa
E.g. I came across this article in the news papper.
Tuck away - put something in a place where it isn’t easy to see or find - guardar, esconder
E.g. The house is tuck away.
Stumble (up) on - encontrar
E.g. He stumbled on an article.
Hand down - legar, heredar, transmitir
E.g. The notebook has been handed down the generations.
Go down - fall down to the ground
