Number 6: The Superhacker
1. What is the text about?
The text is about a hacker named Gary McKinnon who was granted in bail, after He extracted and deleted very important information from the US military and NASA computers. Now He is facing a possible extradition to the USA, McKinnon says that He is a curious voyeur than a national security criminal, besides He was impressed how easy the systems were to break into.
2. What is your personal opinion about the case that you were reading?
We think that the case is incredible, because we can’t believe that the governments are so silly and they do not have a good security, besides Gary McKinnon could enter on one of the most important websites in the USA and we think that it was awesome. Besides the US government is really intelligent, because they will have the worst hacker of all times working on their side, and that is incredible. We think that the man was so smart and brave because He was alone against the biggest governments trying to demonstrate that they are terrible weak and not too strong as they appear to the rest of the world or in this case to McKinnon.
3. What had you done if you were in the case of the victim?
We would do the same if we were in his shoes, because we consider that he is right. Besides the web pages security is really low (according to McKinnon), so the problem is from the government. We would use the argument mentioned before, to try to defend our freedom (in this case, web freedom), although the fact of stealing information is bad (even more when we talk about stealing to the USA), we would not be afraid, because we can always make a deal with the US government.
4. According to you, who is the guilty in your case, why?
In our opinion, Gary McKinnon is not responsible, so the government is guilty, because their security is too easy break into; that is because countries should not “cry” when They lost their information, also They may re-force their security if they do not want to suffer an online robbery (if we can call it this way).
