Asian Youth Games
The Asian Youth Games is a historic tradition that was created in 1951 for Asian athletes. These games were created to show or reflect the rich sport – culture that the athletes bring from their countries, also one of the most important purposes for this is that it promotes the importance of being healthy lifestyle to everyone.
The Asian Youth Games is the oldest event organized by the OCA, and is celebrated every four years. In this event, many sports are proposed such as athletics, swimming (including diving), tennis, judo, fencing, weightlifting, football, 3 – on – 3 basketball, table tennis, badminton, golf, handball, taekwondo, shooting, squash, rugby, and much more is planned to expand the event.
The countries that participate in these events are the following: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunel Darussalam, Cambodia, China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Independent Olympic Athletes, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor – Leste, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Yemen.
There are classifications for each place were the Asian Youth Games take place, and there is the Asian Winter Games, Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and the Asian Beach Games, all of these designed in the best conditions in prepared stages, being studied the possibilities of each country so they can host the event.
The Olympic Council of Asia planned the second Asian Youth Games in 2013 that took place in the city of Nanjing, China from August 16-24 of the year mentioned.
This present year 2014 the Asian Youth Games will take place in Incheon, Korea being the 17th edition.
This particular event has many aspects that provide benefits because it allows the athlethes and the people who attend or watch it to get interested in the culture of very diverse countries, which makes it an educational event also from promoting good health to the younger in specific.
Another benefit of these events is that they take young people to show, share, and learn their great talents with people like them. By acknowledging the fact that it is in fact a competition in a certain point, many values such as respect, friendship, honesty, fellowship, perseverance and much more that we can take from these events.
