The Cotopaxi National Park is a protected area in Ecuador situated on the border of the provinces of Pichincha and Cotopaxi; also we can find the snowy Cotopaxi Volcano inside of the park. It was created in August 1975. The Cotopaxi is the second highest volcano from Ecuador. It is located about 50 km south of Quito. It has an elevation of 5943 meters. Some animals that we can find in the park are: the white-tailed deer, spectacled bear, puma, wild rabbits, moor wolf, the condor, the owl, among others. The most important plant is the Chuquiragua. Inside of the park there are some lagoons that you can visit.
The last weekend, I went to Cotopaxi National Park with my family. It was amazing because I saw a beautiful scenery. I love to travel with them because we have some much fun. We started to tell jokes and ghost stories. Also, during the ride, we saw many pines; I love the smell of pine trees because it reminds me to the Christmas season. Also it was very cold, the sky was overcast; I could hear only the sound of wind. We didn’t have the opportunity to climb the Cotopaxi volcano, because it started to rain. On the slopes of the volcano, I saw big rocks; my mom told me that Cotopaxi Volcano threw them, while it was erupting. Something that really excited me was to see how wild horses run freely. Also, I observed that the vegetation changes each time that you are closer to the Cotopaxi volcano.
I think that we should protect these types of National Parks, because they are preserving the flora and fauna of the provinces of Ecuador, that surround them. The animals that live inside the park are free, so we can’t catch them and treat them as pets. Also, we must respect all the rules of the park, for example you can’t enter with dogs to the Cotopaxi National Park. There exists much foreign tourism to these types of National Parks, so if we want that the foreign tourists respect our country, we should start first to respect, appreciate and love our Ecuador.
