Do Not Blame It on The Government
1. Did you know that only in the US there are around 60,000 fast food chains, and McDonald is the largest restaurant chain? So here comes the question, why should I stop at a super market if I can stop in an auto drive restaurant and have food in just a few minutes? In the speech, Remark to the NAACP, Michelle Obama gave to her audience at the NAACP national convention on 2010 she used this space to promote her campaign “Let’s Move!” which in my opinion is a great idea for the future of children. I have always thought that obesity is not just a problem of government, but also from each one of us. If we learn how to eat and how to educate our children we can cause a great impact for future generations.
2. Michelle Obama gave the audience a speech in which she urged the population to do something about obesity in infants; she invites all the audience in general but also the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) to collaborate with her to accomplish her goal “Let’s Move.” She encouraged the audience with this phrase, “This is not an endeavor that I can do by myself.”(MO 432) We all know that changing habits and life style is really hard, in my opinion Michel Obama’s way of thinking and facing the reality is an excellent way to start with this big problem.
3. So, what is the “Let’s Move!” campaign? “It’s a nationwide campaign to rally this country around a single, ambitious goal, and that is to solve childhood obesity in generation so that children born today reach adulthood at a healthy weight.”(MO 425) in this campaign is not only involved the government but also business and community groups, educators, parents, doctors, etc… that all this people working together will help the campaign have a successful benefit. This campaign is divided in four components: the first one is to give parents the information that they need to make the right decisions for their families, the second one is to include healthier food in schools, the third one is to encourage kids to exercise and the last one is to ensure all families can afford fresh food.
4. Government spends each year billions of dollars to treat sicknesses that are related to obesity and the numbers of sick people just keep going up. “…Putting them at great risk of obesity-related conditions like diabetes and cancer, heart disease, asthma.”(TSIS 420) Obesity is not just a game, obesity can lead to death, so I totally agree with the author when she says that this is a serious problem because it is completely true that we as son or daughter adopt what we see in our house, and then when it is time for us to move, we move with that habits than can keep on moving from generation to generation. So, it is time to stop it now, not just because government spends money on our health but also if we want to have a longer life.
5. Though I concede that having a healthier life was easier in the past as Michel Obama mentions it, I still insist that the major problem with children obesity is the parents that do not pay full attention to their kids. She mentions her early days and she
