Social Effects:

I am going to discuss the two main ideologies that were believed on during the Cold War.

Communism: 2. Communism

a. A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people.

b. The Marxist-Leninist version of Communist doctrine that advocates the overthrow of capitalism by the revolution of the proletariat.

Rusia was the first country to go for Marx's ideologies.

After the Sovietic Revolution, the Sovietic society was really affected:

COLLECTIVE FARMS:

-There was a massive suffering and widespread hunger that affected all of Russia with the seizure of private lands.

-Communism provided everything it promised on a primitive standard of performance.

-Nothing was really equal. The Communist Party enjoyed a system of privileges and larger cities received far more food and consumer goods than did the countryside.

-Employment was offered to everyone, but since everyone was supoosed to be treated equally there were no incentives for good job and factories were full.

-People created a Black Market, where desirable goods turned out more expensive.

MEDICAL SERVICE:

-There were more doctors that were less and poorly trained. Also, there were less medicines produced.

-Hospitals were so crowded that beds had to be oftenly placed in the corridors.

-Bribery was the only way people could receive good health care.

During te 1980's, the health care system spent over $3, 014 a person and still the health care wasn't good enough.

Around 1989, 65% rural hospitals lacked of hot water,

27% lacked sewage system

30% had no indoor plumbing.

-Communicable diseases increased and tuberculosis cases increased to 72.

HOUSING:

-inferior and short supply

-Construction quality was really poor what means the buildings were not safe enough.

-Two million apartments were built each year

-15% of all Soviets had no bathroom

-15% of the living cities had to share bathrooms and kitchens with other families.

CENSORSHIP:

-The communist party did not permit any criticism.

-They banned dissent, free speech and independent thinking.

-After Stalin, conditions improved a little and some people escaped to the west in search of freedom.

-Newspapers, magazines, radios were heavily censored. And foreign medias were not allowed.

FOOD:

-Before Communism, Russia was an agricultural nation.

-The food rotted becuase its distribution was really poor.

-It took 59% of a family's budget to get the food they needed.

ALCOHOLISM:

-Almost every soviet drank heavily and 855% of soviet workers had drinking problems what caused ten thousand deaths in 1987. Family's spent more than 15% of their budget on alcohol.

After all, this system collapsed because there were too many differences between reformes and a really small amount of people believed it would work.

On the other hand, comes capitalism:

an economic system in which investment
